LampGustaf och miljön

Lately the debate on our planet’s climate has become all the more intense. It seems increasingly evident that man must take responsibility so that future generations will have a planet to call their own. The threats come from many directions but a remarkable many have to do with the enormous amount of energy which the industrialized world uses and to some degree must also produce.
Someone once said that, ”no one can do everything but everyone can do something”, and we in our branch maybe more than others. In order to get to grips with this and at the same time help others do something LampGustaf has decided to increase its range of low-energy bulbs from Philips. The new bulbs are firstly smaller than their predecessor but above all they have a design which makes them easier to be used where you were previously obliged to use standard light bulbs. As other types of light sources these bulbs only use approx. 20 % of the energy which a standard light bulb needs in order to produce the same amount of light. Furthermore, in some cases they have a service life up to 15 times as long as a standard light bulb.
Some now state that low-energy bulbs contain mercury, and that is true. Mercury is one of the most harmful environmental poisons we know of and we are therefore proud to be able to say that Philips’ bulbs have the market’s lowest mercury content; far below the maximum levels which the EU has established. The fact is that the production of the extra energy which a light bulb needs in order to shine during a low-energy bulb’s entire service life leaves behind considerably more mercury than which a low-energy bulb from Philips contains. Additionally, if we take care of  and return our used low-energy bulbs we may be able to avoid it completely. We can also save a great deal of money using low-energy bulbs.
Philips’ and LampGustaf’s efforts in energy savings also include light sources with a so-called LED, light-emitting diode. These are even more energy efficient and have service lives of up to 100 000 hours. The LED technique is progressing rapidly but so far the bulbs are used predominantly for decorative purposes. They produce almost no heat and are found in several colours. See table bulb Imageo© »

Energy efficiency is now not the only area where our branch can make a contribution. A lot has to do with finding environmentally-friendly alternatives in the production where there is still a lot to do. This is one thing that Philips has already done under the name EcoBoost©, an environmentally-friendly technology to manufacture halogen light sources. All light sources in the Master Line series which LampGustaf supplies are manufactured using this technology.

The environment in focus
During 2008 LampGustaf is taking the next step in working to achieve an efficient energy usage within illumination. This year’s collection has a large number of light assemblies which have been adapted to be able to be used together with either low-energy light sources or L.E.D. In order to make it easier for clients and consumers to be able to know which light assemblies work with an energy-saving alternative we have introduced a special symbol which we are going to place both on the light assembly and packaging.

Miljöfokus

If you buy a light assembly with the symbol ”Environment Focus” you know that you have all the opportunities to make an environmentally-conscious decision when you choose light sources for your light assembly. In addition to this, we are placing recommendations in our catalogue on which type of light sources which we consider to be appropriate for just that particular light assembly.
